Participation in arts activities improves the health and well-being of elders. Cantonese opera is not only a hobby from the past, but a collective cultural memory for elders in Hong Kong.
The programme offers an opportunity for elders and their family members to spend quality time together through attending a Cantonese opera performance plus engaging in an interactive arts experience on Cantonese opera. Elders are given a platform to share their experiences and pass on their knowledge of Cantonese opera to their children and even grandchildren.
Project components
The Xiqu programme comprises of:
- 24 Xiqu handicraft workshops; and
- 4 performances at the Tea House Theatre.
- 240 elders and 240 family caregivers will enjoy the handicraft workshop and the Chinese opera performance.
