Elders and their family members
Private nursing homes in New Territories East
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on elders who are living in nursing homes. As a measure to control the spread of Covid-19, nursing homes have adopted a no-visiting practice intermittently since Jan 2020, and more stringent starting from mid-July 2020 when there was a surge of infections in more than ten nursing homes. As a result, elders have been isolated due to limited communication with their families.
Through the outreaching services of BOKSS to private nursing homes in New Territories East, the project helps the elderly residents stay connected with their families and friends through the installation of Wi-Fi and tablets.
Phase 1 – To introduce and facilitate the use of video telecommunication in private aged homes;

Phase 2 – To sustain the use of video-communication of the home staff, family carers and volunteers in private aged homes;
Training and coaching sessions to staff, carers and volunteers; and
Online social, cognitive activities and therapeutic training.
