Cho Yiu Estate and Lai Yiu Estate are two old public housing estates of more than 40 years. Around 39% of the residents are aged 60 or above and 27% of the elderly population are singleton or elderly couples. Furthermore, the 2 estates are on the hillside, posing difficulty for the daily living of the elders and the care support of the families. By adopting a community- and strength-based approach, the project will provide support for at-risk elders, family caregivers and community stakeholders in building up a dementia- and carer- friendly community.

Project components

• 150 elders/carers will receive day care and planned respite support
• 146 elders/carers will receive home assistance support
• 1,000 memory screening test
• 150 elders will receive assessment and training
• 250 volunteers will be trained as assisting buddies
• 600 elders will receive medical consultation
• Connect and educate key stakeholders in the community e.g., residents’ associations, security guards, shop-keepers etc to engage in dementia- and carer-friendly community activities
• 4,000 people in the community will be trained in dementia and carer awareness programmes
