Elders with early dementia, frail elders, their carers and the community of Wah Fu Estate and Wah Kwai Estate
Wah Fu Estate & Wah Kwai Estate, Hong Kong Island
Wah Fu Estate is one of the oldest public housing estates in Hong Kong. With the growing number of vulnerable elderly residents and their caregivers, the Caregiver Companion Project (Phase I) was implemented in 2016-2018 and a dementia-friendly community service model was piloted to support the persons and families with dementia. The dementia-friendly community service model will be extended to Wah Kwai Estate, a district next to Wah Fu and with 21.1% of the population being aged 65 or above.

The frail elders and those with early dementia and their family members will make use of day care and community support services to frail elders in enhancing their quality of life and relieving pressure on carers. The potential and talent of elders with mild cognitive impairment will be maximised at the Talent Hub. In addition to Wah Fu Estate, the project will also engage key stakeholders at Wah Kwai Estate to build up a dementia-friendly community.
